This paper focusses on two popular book projects that sought to communicate Buddhism’s variety and complexity non-specialists. The first emerged from a radio series the author was asked write present for BBC World Service in mid-1990s, entitled Way of Buddha. A followed, published by Oneworld. second an edited also slotted into series, Equinox - Buddhism 5 Minutes. is exercise self-reflexivity, context demands are placed academics within religious studies. these government’s insistence academic research should have impact ‘the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, environment quality life’. lack literacy society working studies address it. short will, therefore, concentrate aims, method, structure content each light demands. It will explore potential such issues they raise discipline our role as academics.
